Born as a secondhand clothes store in Kyoto in 1829, Takashimaya department store advanced into Osaka in 1898. Then it found its way into Tokyo just two years later in 1900. In 1933, Takashimaya opened Tokyo Nihonbashi store as a key tenant of the stately building as shown in the picture. This old building has been used since, and is a nationally-designated important cultural asset.
