"Yanaka-Ginza" with "Yuyake-dandan" in Taito-ku, Tokyo.

"Ginza" in Tokyo is widely known as Japan's No.1 shopping district in terms of status. Thus there are so many shopping districts in Japan that take after the name of ginza. This Yanaka-Ginza is one of them. A lot of Buddhist temples , most of which are the branch temples of nearby "Kaneiji Temple" in Ueno, had concentrated in this neighborhood since the 17th century. In accordance with the increasing number of the visitors to these temples, this area has been gradually urbanized since. Yanaka-Ginza, the central shopping district of this area, creates a humble atmosphere. Thanks to the many temples with spacious precincts, this area has survived several conflagrations in Tokyo since the the end of the feudal years in the middle of the 19th century. This is the reason why the old atmosphere of Tokyo still remains around here. The picture shows the stairs called "Yuyake-dandan", which literally means the stairs featuring beautiful sunset. This stairs are found just at the entrance of Yanaka Ginza.
