The Nachi Falls in the south of Wakayama Prefecture.

The Nachi Falls has long been venerated by Japanese people since ancient times, as this is an object of worship of Hiroh Shrine which is an affiliate shrine of Kumano Nasu Taisha Shrine. This waterfall boasts No.1 in Japan as to a drop of 133 meters. The vicinity of this fall is a sacred place with 48 falls, large and small. Nature worship, particularly ascetic practices standing under a waterfall has been very common in this area. The Nachi Falls is said to be the first place where a practice under a waterfall was done. This is one of the elements of the World Heritage Site 'Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountains'.
