Showa Commemorative Government-run Park stands in Tachikawa City, Tokyo.

This extensive urban park was built in the site of former Tachikawa Airport of the Imperial Japanese Army. The first phase of construction of this park was completed in 1983, which was planned as a part of the events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Emperor Showa, Hirohito, the grandfather of the present Emperor. Being added a variety of facilities and gardens, thereafter, this park boasts an area of some 1.65 square kilometers. This park is not only for recreational use, but also for an emergency evacuation site. Wide-area disaster prevention base of Tokyo, and National Hospital Organization Disaster Medical Center are adjacent to this park.
