This theatre gives the performance of Japanese traditional theatrical arts, and trains the apprentices. In addition, it carries out the research and study of these traditional arts. Two sizes of theatres are available according to the types of drama. The National Engei Hall for Manzai (Japanese comic dialogue) and Rakugo (Japanese comic storytelling), and the Traditional Performance Arts Information Centre are standing side by side close to this theatre. This theatre was built in 1966, thus is expected to be reconstructed in the near future.
