Takeo-Onsen hot springs, which appeared in an old local history book in the 8th century compiled by the then Government, has long been loved by the locals. This resort stands along the Nagasaki Highway, which leads to Nagasaki where used to be the one and only door opening to the restricted foreign countries. So, the records reading that many important people of various fields visited here are found. Tatsuno Kingo, a well-known architect who designed Tokyo Station Building, the headquarters of Bank of Japan, etc. , was born in this district, thus he was commissioned to design these two buildings, ro-mon gate and shin-kan, as shown in the two pictures. The shin-kan building in the second picture originally was a public bath house, and was restored in 2003 to be opened to the public as a museum. These two building aside, there are 17 Japanese style hotels with hot spring baths in this resort.
