Being located in the midtown area of Tokyo, this temple still keeps up tranquil atmosphere nonetheless, as if it were in the 17th century. Large and prestigious this is though, very few visitors are found here because this is not a major tourist spot. The Hon-do main building in the picture, built in 1682, is on the list of an important cultural asset. This temple had been supported just by the Tokugawa shogun's family, thus this got financial stuck after the end of their era in the middle of the 19th century. In order to cover the financial difficulty, the eastern half of the temple grounds was handed over to the Imperial Family from Kyoto to transfer into the Toshimagaoka Cemetery. Many Imperial family members, except for the successive Emperors and Empresses, were buried in this cemetery.
