'Fujimi-yagura' tower is standing in the southeast corner of the main enclosure of old Edo Castle.

Many important buildings from the main keep down, all of them shouldered the responsibility of the politics of Japan in the feudal years, used to stand in 'Honmaru' which is the main enclosure of old Edo Castle. However, most of the buildings were burnt down and only several buildings in the entire area of the castle have survived. Fujimi-yagura tower in the picture is the tallest building among them. This building was destroyed by fire in 1657 though, it was rebuilt in 1659. This originally was used as a warehouse for a sightseeing tower for the distant view of Mt. Fuji and fireworks in downtown Edo present Tokyo.
